WHAT IT IS

A real nervous system, not a metaphor

Every connection in this organism was mapped using electron microscope reconstruction of an adult hermaphrodite Caenorhabditis elegans. Nothing is synthetic, nothing is sampled from a synthetic distribution, and it is not an artificial neural network "inspired by" a brain.

The complete C. elegans connectome dataset comprises exactly 302 identified neurons and approximately 7,000 chemical synapses, gap junctions, and neuromuscular junctions. The neurons run as leaky integrate-and-fire units with realistic membrane dynamics: resting potential -70 mV, threshold -50 mV, and realistic synaptic decay constants.

HOW IT REACHES THE WORLD

It senses with amphid sensilla and moves with motor neurons

A screenshot of a live web page is converted into chemical/luminance gradients feeding directly into sensory neurons ASE and ASH. All 302 neurons integrate signals, outputting motor commands through command interneurons into virtual muscle nodes.

ASEL / ASER

Chemosensory neurons. Calculates luminance & chemical gradients across screen regions to steer towards targets.

AVB / AVA

Command interneurons. Controls forward locomotion and backward avoidance maneuvers on the page.

SMB / SMD

Head motor neurons. Drives head bending and directional steering for precise cursor positioning.

RME

GABAergic motor neurons. Regulates click pulse timing and inhibition during target engagement.
